Input Equity

Separate from outcome attribution, engage.re tracks what each participant contributes to an initiative - enabling fair recognition and equity distribution.

Two Different Questions

Outcome Attribution

"Who helped produce this change in the world?"

Tracked via contribution stories. Flows up hierarchies. Compares strategies.

See: Attribution

Input Equity

"What has each member put in?"

Tracked via contribution ledger. Internal to initiatives. Enables fair distribution.

The internal engine of fairness.

Six Capital Types

Participants can contribute different types of resources:

Time
Hours worked on tasks
Money
Funds invested
Knowledge
Ideas, documents, IP
Connections
Referrals, introductions
Reputation
Public endorsements
Assets
Equipment, space

How Equity Is Calculated

User Slices = Σ (value × multiplier)
Equity Share = User Slices ÷ Total Slices

Example: Community Garden Team

A local team is building a community garden. Each member contributes what they can:

Contributor Contribution Slices
Maya 30 hours of gardening work 30
James £200 for seeds and tools 20
Priya Garden design and planting plan 25
Sam Introduced 3 key volunteers 15
Local nursery Donated greenhouse space 10
Total Pool 100

When the garden produces value - whether that's harvest shares, grant funding, or recognition - it can be distributed proportionally. Maya's 30% reflects her significant time investment. James' financial contribution, Priya's expertise, Sam's network, and the nursery's assets all count fairly.

Foundation The equity tracking infrastructure is in place - the data model, APIs, and some display dashboards are built. As we continue building the contribution logging features and interfaces, projects and teams will be able to set equity frameworks and track who puts what in and distribute recognition fairly.

How Contributions Are Recorded

Provenance How Recorded
System Tracked Automatic from task completion, payments, etc.
Peer Assessed Other team members rate contributions
Self-Declared Contributor logs their own input
